Serbia to focus on production of drones, says President Vucic

BELGRADE, January 16. /TASS/. Serbia will focus on the production of unmanned aerial vehicles, the Balkan country’s President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday after a government meeting on the results of the Serbian army’s operation in 2022.
"In the coming period, we will focus our production first of all on unmanned aerial vehicles and drones. <…> The conflict in Ukraine has had an adverse effect on us, because we cannot import weapons and equipment as we planned and paid for. So, we must reorient our own capacities as soon as possible," he stressed.
The meeting was attended by Defense Minister Milos Vucevic and Chief of the General Staff Milan Mojsilovic.
Vucic said earlier that Serbia planned to launch serial production of kamikaze drones at the Utva enterprise (a Yugoimport subsidiary) from April 2023. He noted that the "present-day warfare has changed a lot" and Serbia must undertake efforts to catch up with the current trends in drone technologies.
