MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Ukraine is unlikely to make a decision to create a security zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant on its own. This will require permission from Kiev's political patrons, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev told the media on Thursday.

"Kiev, I think, is unlikely to make a decision on its own. Its political patrons are to delve into this subject and agree to share this ideology first," he said. "If it works out, then there will be a zone. If this issue is brushed aside, the efforts will be stalled."

Likhachev added that a security zone around the ZNPP was an urgent need and its parameters were pretty clear.

"There was a discussion about this with the head of the IAEA, [Rafael] Grossi. Once again, I would like to proclaim the principle. Not a single bullet, not a single artillery shell, not a single rocket, and not a single group of saboteurs should be allowed to approach the power plant’s premises," Likhachev said.

In response, he continued, "Russia will agree to keep no offensive weapons or strike forces [at the power plant], but will use only the power plant’s own means of physical protection and security."

"We are ready for this scenario. We hope the IAEA leadership hears us," Likhachev concluded.
