Russia notifies other states of strategic drills through military channels, says Kremlin

Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the possibility of conducting such drills

MOSCOW, October 18. /TASS/. Moscow notifies foreign partners of strategic nuclear drills through military channels, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.

The Russian presidential spokesman thus commented on a report by the news agency Reuters that Russia has allegedly not informed the United States yet of its potential strategic exercise, although it may take place soon.

"An established system of notifications, notices of such drills exists. This is done through channels of the Defense Ministry," Peskov said.

The Kremlin press secretary declined to comment on the possibility of conducting such drills.

US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told a briefing last week that the United States expected Russia "to conduct its annual strategic nuclear exercise" soon. As Kirby said, Washington knew that "Russian nuclear units train extensively at this time of year, again, routine, and obviously, we're going to continue to monitor that accordingly."
