About 600 Russian troops to take part in post-Soviet security bloc’s drills in Tajikistan

It is reported that under an agreement signed in October 2012, Russia’s military base in Tajikistan will remain until 2042

YEKATERINBURG, October 11. /TASS/. About 600 Russian troops will participate in the Rubezh 2022 (Frontier 2022) drills of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Tajikistan, the CSTO drills joint press office reported on Tuesday.

"About 600 Russian servicemen will take part in the Rubezh 2022 joint exercise of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the Central Asian region in Tajikistan. The Russian contingent is mostly comprised of servicemen of the 201st military base of the Central Military District and over 150 items of armament, special and military hardware will be involved," the statement reads.

The post-Soviet security bloc’s Rubezh 2022 drills are running from September 10 to September 21. The drills press office reported on Monday that military contingents of the CSTO member states were heading to Tajikistan.

The active phase of the exercise will take place on October 17-21. During the drills, the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces in Central Asia will practice conducting combat operations against outlawed armed gangs that have notionally intruded into a CSTO member state. The drills in Tajikistan are expected to bring together about 1,000 troops.

The 201st military base stationed in Tajikistan is Russia’s largest military facility outside its borders. The military base is stationed in the cities of Dushanbe and Bokhtar. The military base comprises motor rifle, armored, artillery and reconnaissance units, air defense forces, radiation, chemical and biological protection and signal troops.
