Ukraine’s attacks on Zaporozhye NPP agreed with US and UK — local authorities
It is also reported that the nuclear plant is being shelled from Western-made weapons
MOSCOW, August 23. /TASS/. Ukraine’s attacks on the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant were agreed with the United States and the United Kingdom, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the Zaporozhye region military-civilian administration’s council, said on Tuesday.
"We see that these shelling attacks were agreed with the Americans and the British, that it is not [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky’s personal initiative," he said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.
He noted that the nuclear plant is being shelled from Western-made weapons. "All shelling episodes are registered at the nuclear plant: from where, from which weapons. I would recall that weapons of the 155mm caliber are American and British - heavy artillery of the M777 type, HIMARS rocket systems, American guided missiles and rockets," he said.
He said earlier that Ukrainian troops are deliberately targeting the Zaporozhye nuclear plant’s coolant system, being quite aware that it may lead to the overheating of the reactor, which may trigger uncontrolled processes. "Obviously, Kiev is consulted by specialists," most likely, Western, Rogov noted.
Located in the city of Energodar, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is controlled by Russian troops. In recent days, Ukrainian forces delivered several strikes at its territory using unmanned aerial vehicles, heavy artillery and multiple rocket launch systems. It most cases, such attacks are repelled by air defense systems but several shells hit infrastructure facilities and the vicinity of the nuclear waste storage.
