Over 3,000 troops involved in Baltic Fleet’s drills in Russia’s westernmost region
Under the plan of the maneuvers, the troops are exercising to repulse a hypothetical enemy’s attacks
KALININGRAD, June 10. /TASS/. Over 3,000 troops of the Baltic Fleet’s army corps stationed in the Kaliningrad Region have begun practicing combat training tasks with a live-fire exercise to repel hypothetical enemy attacks, the Fleet’s press office reported on Friday.
"The combat training measures as part of the Fleet’s operational exercise have brought together over 3,000 troops and more than 300 items of combat and special hardware, including T-72B3 tanks, BMP-2 and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, Msta-S self-propelled artillery guns, Uragan and Grad multiple launch rocket systems and other materiel in service with the army corps’ units and formations," the press office said in a statement.
The troops conducted vehicular marches in their vehicles to designated areas. Under the plan of the maneuvers, they are exercising at combat training ranges in the Kaliningrad Region to repulse a hypothetical enemy’s attacks and conduct a live-fire exercise using small arms, grenade launchers and guns of infantry fighting vehicles, tanks and artillery against the targets that simulate adversary tracked and wheeled hardware and manpower, the press office specified.
As was reported, the Baltic Fleet’s operational exercise involves up to 60 surface ships, gunboats and support vessels, including guard ships and corvettes, missile ships and boats, small anti-submarine warfare ships, coastal and harbor minesweepers, and also small amphibious assault hovercraft and fast-speed boats.
In addition, the maneuvers have brought together around 10,000 troops, about 45 aircraft and helicopters and up to 2,000 items of combat and special hardware.
The Russian Baltic Fleet’s scheduled maneuvers are running amid NATO’s sweeping naval drills in the Baltic region. NATO is conducting the Baltops 2022 (Baltic Operations) massive drills in the central and southern Baltic waters and at coastal training grounds in Germany, Sweden, Poland and the Baltic states on June 5-16. The drills involve 14 NATO member states, 44 warships and around 100 aircraft.
