Russian Defense Ministry reveals detention conditions for Ukrainian POWs from Azovstal
Everyone in need are provided with qualified medical aid
MOSCOW, May 19. /TASS/. Russian Defense Ministry revealed the conditions of detention of Ukrainian prisoners or war from Mariupol’s Azovstal plant, currently held in the settlement of Yelenovka, Donetsk People’s Republic.
According to the published footage, the POWs are accommodated in permanent building with personal beds for everyone. According to the POWs who spoke on camera, they were provided with bedding and regular quality food. Everyone in need are provided with qualified medical aid, and receive proper attitude.
"I didn’t know what to expect. What we’ve got is better than what we expected. It’s okay, everything’s alright. Everyone is loyal, adequate, no one insults us, no one get personal. They provided aid to my fellow servicemen; I was assured that all seriously injured were evacuated and had their wounds treated. I hope they will receive further treatment," says captured medic lieutenant.
Earlier on Thursday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov announced that, in the past 24 hours, 771 Azov nationalist battalion militants surrendered at Azovstal. Since May 16, a total of 1,730 militants have surrendered, including 80 injured. Everyone in need of hospital treatment receives aid in medical facilities in Novoazovsk and Donetsk, he said. On Tuesday, the Defense Ministry announced that nationalists and Ukrainian servicemen, blocked at the Azovstal plant started to surrender.
