Russian Navy missile ships practice artillery fire in Baltic drills
During the naval maneuvers, the warships practiced combat operations to repel attacks by small-size enemy targets, conduct joint maneuvering, ensure interoperability and maintain communications
KALININGRAD, May 12. /TASS/. The Baltic Fleet’s missile corvettes Sovetsk and Mytishchi practiced artillery fire against surface targets at long ranges during naval maneuvers, the Fleet’s press office reported on Thursday.
"At a naval range in the Baltic Sea, the naval strike group composed of the missile corvettes Sovetsk and Mytishchi accomplished a set of artillery firings against large and small sea targets simulating a mock enemy’s combat ships," the press office said in a statement.
The missile corvettes also delivered artillery fire against buoy fields outside direct visibility of the crews. The fire was conducted from 76mm and 30mm artillery systems operational aboard the Sovetsk and Mytishchi, it added.
During the naval maneuvers, the warships practiced combat operations to repel attacks by small-size enemy targets, conduct joint maneuvering, ensure interoperability and maintain communications, the press office said.
"For the time of combat firings, the naval ranges in close proximity to the coast of the Kaliningrad Region were declared temporarily unsafe for shipping and flights. The Fleet’s surface ships and support vessels were involved in security provision measures," the statement says.
