NATO claims intercepting Russian aircraft near alliance’s airspace over past few days

The radars tracked a number of unidentified aircraft over the Baltic and Black Seas since April 26, the statement reads

BRUSSELS, April 29. /TASS/. NATO jets have been scrambled several times over the past few days to track and intercept Russian aircraft near the alliance’s airspace, the military bloc claimed in a statement posted on its website on Friday.

"NATO fighter jets stationed around the Baltic and Black Seas have scrambled multiple times over the past four days to track and intercept Russian aircraft near Alliance airspace," the statement reads.

As the statement goes, "NATO radars tracked a number of unidentified aircraft over the Baltic and Black Seas since Tuesday 26 April."

In response, the military alliance scrambled allied fighter jets "to intercept and identify the approaching aircraft." It follows from the press release that "the Russian aircraft intercepted never entered Alliance airspace, and the interceptions were conducted in a safe and routine manner."

The alliance’s statement gave no confirmation that exactly Russian aircraft were intercepted.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has repeatedly stated that Russian aircraft perform all their flights in strict compliance with the international rules of using the airspace over neutral waters without violating the borders of other states.
