MOSCOW, April 19. /TASS/. The Russian Northern Fleet will get over 500 advanced weapon systems in 2022, Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergey Shoigu said at a meeting with top commanders on Tuesday.

The Russian Defense Ministry constantly controls the issues of ensuring military security of Russia’s Arctic area, he said.

"The Northern Fleet is fulfilling the assigned tasks amid a dramatic deterioration of the military and political situation in Europe, the escalation of tension and mounting threats. In 2022, we continue raising the combat capabilities of force groupings: we are actively building up the combat potential and rearming troops. This year, over 500 advanced weapon systems will be delivered," the defense chief said.

During the command and staff drills held in February under the direction of Russia’s supreme commander-in-chief, the Northern Fleet proved its ability to reliably fulfil the tasks of employing seaborne nuclear forces, Shoigu stressed.
