Russia’s top investigator orders to bring Georgian legion commander in Ukraine to justice

According to the available data, representatives of the Georgian legion within the Ukrainian armed forces committed unlawful acts against Russian servicemen

MOSCOW, April 7. /TASS/. Head of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin gave instructions to bring the commander of the Georgian legion within the Ukrainian armed forces to criminal account for violations of the rules of warfare, the Investigative Committee’s press office told TASS on Thursday.

"The Chairman of the Investigative Committee has instructed the Main Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee to bring commander of the Georgian legion within the Ukrainian armed forces Mamulashvili to criminal account over the violations of the rules of warfare committed against servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces and the Russian Guard personnel," the press office said in a statement.

According to the available data, representatives of the Georgian legion within the Ukrainian armed forces committed unlawful acts against Russian servicemen. In addition, Mamulashvili made public statements about the intentions to torture and kill Russian servicemen and representatives of the National Guard operational response brigade of the North Caucasian District, it said.

"These acts directly run counter to the Geneva Convention of August 12, 1949, on the treatment of prisoners of war. In this regard, A. I. Bastrykin has instructed investigators to establish the circumstances of criminal offenses committed and bring all those complicit in these acts to criminal account," the Investigative Committee said.
