Moscow to consider anti-missile system deployment by US in Poland in military planning
Sergey Ryabkov also noted that not only for the US and Poland, but for NATO in general there is "a good opportunity" now to think again about Russia’s proposal on mutual ascertainable moratoriums on non-deployment of medium-range percussion complexes in Europe
SOCHI, June 25. /TASS/. Russia will consider in its military planning the US’ deployment of components of the land-based Aegis Ashore ballistic missile defense system near the Polish community of Redzikowo, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Friday.
He referred to those actions as another confirmation of the fact that the initial Washington’s arguments on establishing a system of anti-missile defense to defuse the danger from the Middle East and Far East "are actually neglected now." "The facility in Poland, same as in Romania and many other spots, is going to become an element of the global anti-missile defense system, which is being constantly improved, and whose possibilities, including with regard to potentials, equal opponents, are expanding as well," Ryabkov said, adding that Moscow "will consider that in its military planning."
The senior Russian diplomat also noted that not only for the US and Poland, but for NATO in general there is "a good opportunity" now to think again about Russia’s proposal on mutual ascertainable moratoriums on non-deployment of medium-range percussion complexes in Europe. "The facility in Redzikowo [settlement] should be examined in case such a mechanism is developed, we believe, if we want to be confident that there exists no threat of deployment of ground-type intermediate range missiles produced in the US," he added.
