NATO takes steps to move infrastructure close to Russian borders — top brass

The deployment of forward forces on the territory of the alliance’s new members has become a priority, Valery Gerasimov said

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. The North Atlantic alliance is moving its infrastructure close to Russian borders, Chief of the Russian General Staff Army General Valery Gerasimov said at the Moscow Conference on International Security on Wednesday.

"Amid the collapse of the arms control system, the North Atlantic alliance is taking steps to move the NATO infrastructure to the borders of the Russian Federation. The deployment of forward forces on the territory of the alliance’s new members has become a priority," Gerasimov pointed out.

At first, the North Atlantic alliance carried out missions to protect the airspace, and now "the forward-deployed forces also include land troop formations along with aviation," the chief of the Russian General Staff said.

The Moscow Conference on International Security has been held annually since 2012 under the auspices of the Defense Ministry of Russia. The forum consistently strengthens its role as a reputable venue for discussing the most pressing issues of international security and traditionally evokes great interest both in Russia and abroad.
