Drills involving 3,500 servicemen kick off in six regions of Russia
The exercise involves over 600 vehicles
VORONEZH, January 28. /TASS/. Over 3,500 Western Military District servicemen participate in military exercise that began across Voronezh, Belgorod, Bryansk, Smolensk, Kursk and Moscow regions, the District press service told journalists Thursday.
"Over 3,500 servicemen of units and divisions […] of the Western Military District engaged in scheduled military drills in six regions of Russia," the press service said.
According to the press service, the exercise involves over 600 vehicles, including BMP-2 combat vehicles, BTR-82A armored personnel carriers, T-72B3 tanks, Msta-S-M2, Nona-ASVK, Uragan, Tornado-G and Iskander-M artillery and missile systems, Buk-M3 missile air defense systems, reconnaissance, communications and supply vehicles.
The press service disclosed that the exercise scenario included practicing alarms, vehicle dispatching, march and deployment at proving grounds for practicing defensive action, as well as life support measures during stops, reception of reconnaissance information about the mock enemy, and orienteering on the ground.
"The exercise involves Army control structures, communications brigades, tank, infantry, artillery, missile, air defense units; nuclear, chemical and biological protection troops; reconnaissance and supply units. The headquarters commission checks the quality of combat preparation measures, movement concealment, organization of a single control system, deployment of field communication nodes, performance on guard and defense actions," the press service said.
