Pantsyr anti-aircraft missile/gun systems repel enemy air attack in southern Russia drills
The combat teams also passed tests for technical, tactical and missile firing training
MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. The teams of Pantsyr anti-aircraft missile/gun systems of the air defense regiment from the Leningrad Air Force and Air Defense Army repelled a notional enemy’s air attack during drills at the Ashuluk training range in the Astrakhan Region, the press office of Russia’s Western Military District reported on Monday.
"The teams of Pantsyr surface-to-air missile systems redeployed from the Leningrad Region performed a march to the training range and assumed combat duty on air defense. The servicemen detected cruise missiles and aircraft simulated by supersonic targets," the press office said in a statement.
The exposed enemy air targets were hit both by Pantsyr surface-to-air missiles and 30mm guns, the statement says.
The combat teams also passed tests for technical, tactical and missile firing training, the press office said.
The Pantsyr is a ground-based self-propelled surface-to-air missile/gun system designated to shield military and civilian facilities, including long-range air defense systems, from all modern and future air attack weapons. The Pantsyr consists of 12 surface-to-air missiles (six missiles in two transport and launch containers each).
The Pantsyr is also armed with two 30mm guns, each of which is capable of firing up to 40 rounds per second.
