KIEV, April 4. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko has signed an annual program of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, reinforcing the country’s course towards a partnership with the alliance.
"Today, I’m signing another annual national program on strengthening the partnership between NATO and Ukraine," he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday. Poroshenko added that Ukraine has become "an eastern flank of the alliance". "Now, we are ready to assume the long-awaited responsibilities and to start fulfilling the action plan on becoming a NATO member," he stressed.
The Ukrainian leader expressed his hope that during the summit in London planned for December, "the allies will start a practical discussion on granting Ukraine an action plan on NATO membership." "There is no alternative to NATO and the EU for Ukraine," the president added.
On January 30, the Ukrainian government approved a draft of the NATO cooperation program for the year 2019.
