Russian cutting-edge frigate repels notional enemy’s missile strike in Indian Ocean drills
The drills involved the ship’s navigational, missile and artillery and radio-technical combat teams
MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. The Russian Northern Fleet’s frigate Admiral Gorshkov performing a long-distance voyage in the Indian Ocean has repelled a notional enemy’s missile and air attack in drills, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.
"The crew of the Northern Fleet’s frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov performing long-distance voyage missions in the Indian Ocean has held an exercise for the ship’s comprehensive defense against a notional enemy’s air attacks. The exercise followed the scenario of repelling missile and air strikes," the statement says.
The drills involved the ship’s navigational, missile and artillery and radio-technical combat teams, and also the crew of the Kamov Ka-27PS helicopter that simulated an enemy air attack, the press office said.
"The tactical situation was simulated with the help of computer modeling," the Fleet’s press office explained.
The naval exercise also checked the speed, correctness and cohesion of combat teams of the Poliment-Redut air defense missile system, the A-192 artillery gun and the combat information center, the press office said.
"The drills assessed the quality and the speed of target acquisition, notional targets engagement and their destruction by various weapons at medium and long distances," the statement reads.
The exercises were performed successfully and the crew demonstrated high cohesion, Naval Group Commander Captain 1st Rank Vladislav Malakhovsky said.
The Project 22350 lead frigate Admiral Gorshkov began its first voyage in distant waters on February 26 after departing from the Northern Fleet’s main naval base of Severomorsk. The frigate has covered about 9,000 nautical miles.
The frigate Admiral Gorshkov is the Project 22350 lead frigate. Warships of this class displace 4,500 tonnes and can develop a speed of up to 29 knots. They are armed with Oniks and Kalibr missile launchers, and also with the Poliment-Redut surface-to-air missile system.
