Russian cruise missile frigate, group of Northern Feet ships enter English Channel
This is the first voyage for the frigate Admiral Gorshkov
MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. The Russian missile frigate Admiral Gorshkov, the multifunctional logistics support vessel Elbrus, the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker and the sea tanker Kama are passing through the English Channel, the press service of the Russian Northern Fleet reports.
The Admiral Gorshkov set off on February 26 for its first voyage to lead a group of the Russian Northern Fleet’s ships in distant waters. The ships have already covered more than 1,600 nautical miles.
This is the first voyage for the frigate Admiral Gorshkov. Before that, it made only inter-fleet and inter-base transits. The frigate is the naval group’s flagship, from which command and control of the other vessels and their maneuvers are carried out.
In the next few months, the ships’ crews will be performing long-distance voyage missions in various parts of the World Ocean. The voyage aims to demonstrate the Russian Navy’s flag and provide for naval presence in operational areas of the long-distance oceanic zone.
