Russia not going to enter any arms race, says security chief
Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev recalled that sufficient financing for the Russian defense is being provided
MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. Russia provides sufficient financing for its defense but there can be no talk about any arms race with other countries, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper on Tuesday.
"The financing is sufficient and there is no talk about any additional funds," he stressed.
"Moreover, the basic peak of the financing of promising weapon systems is over." "At the same time, there can be no talk about any arms race," the head of Russia’s Security Council said.
The Pentagon’s budget exceeds by 15 times the spending of Russia’s Defense Ministry, Patrushev said.
"Our country has chosen the way of an asymmetric response to challenges and threats from the United States and its allies," he noted.
"That is why, we have developed advanced weapon systems that have no analogues in the world today," he said.
Such weapon systems multiply boost the potential of the Army and the Navy, thus reliably ensuring Russia’s security for decades to come. In developing the most advanced weaponry, Russia employs a principally new approach, which is based on high technologies, the head of Russia’s Security Council stressed.
"The key role is attached to digital technologies and artificial intelligence, on the basis of which weapons of the future can be created," Patrushev said.
"In recent years, a qualitative leap has been made in developing military and special systems," he pointed out.
Many advanced weapon systems have been tested in Syria and, on the basis of the experience gained, required measures have been worked out to increase their combat characteristics, the secretary of Russia’s Security Council said.
In order to contain a possible aggression against Russia, Moscow is strengthening its nuclear triad and the highest share of modern armament has been reached in this sphere - 82%, Patrushev stressed.
