Russian defense ministry’s delegation focuses on naval cooperation at talks in Iran

MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. A delegation of the Russian Defense Ministry led by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff Igor Osipov focused on naval cooperation at talks with Iranian counterparts, the ministry’s spokesperson told reporters on Wednesday.

The Russian delegation arrived in Iran on December 24 to attend the second meeting of the Russian-Iranian working group implementing the intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation, the ministry said.

"The talks touched upon a wide range of aspcets of Russia’s military cooperation with Iran, including interaction between different forces. Particular attention was drawn to navy cooperation," says the defense ministry’s statement obtained by TASS.

Apart from that, Russia thanked Tehran for active participation in the 2018 International Army Games and invited Iranian service members to take part in the 2019 Games.

"During the visit, Vice Admiral Igor Osipov held a several meetings with the military leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran, exchanging views on regional and global security, the current situation and prospects for bilateral cooperation in the military sector," the defense ministry said.

"The meetings were held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and confirmed mutual determination for further development of Russian-Iranian military cooperation," the ministry said.
