Putin points to need for better combat training, re-equipping army with up-to-date weapons
The Russian president said that during military maneuvers, command post exercise and sea voyages, the armed forces should practice increasingly more complex and unconventional tasks
SOCHI, November 19. /TASS/. Improved training of troops, army reequipment and educational work in army units represent the priority tasks for developing Russia's army and fleet, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday when opening a traditional seriers of consultations on developing the Russian Armed Forces.
"First of all, we need to improve combat training of troops, including with consideration of experience received during the operation in Syria," Putin said. "Secondly, we need to continue equipping the army and fleet with modern weapons and equipment."
The Russian president said that during military maneuvers, command post exercise and sea voyages, the armed forces should practice increasingly more complex, unconventional and unusual tasks; develop the practice of snap checks of units and divisions; keep under constant control mobilization readiness of federal and regional executives, as well as defense companies and other related industries.
Putin added that a separate session will be devoted to issues of reequipping the army and fleet. However, he asked the deputy defense minister and commanders to report on how units and divisions are adjusting to new weapons and equipment.
"Thirdly, we need to pay the most serious attention to educational work with military personnel," Putin said adding that high morale among officers and soldiers always served as the moral core of the Russian army. "These traditions should be revived and actively developed," he noted.
Putin also asked to report on results of work on forming military-political authorities within the Armed Forces, as well as their priority goals and tasks.
