More than 1,000 post-Soviet bloc’s peacekeepers repel ‘militant’ attack during drills
Mi-24 strike helicopters offered aerial support to the ground forces
YEKATERINBURG, November 2. /TASS/. The Joint Peacekeeping Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have repelled attacks carried out by "militants" during the active phase of the joint exercise "Enduring Brotherhood-2018" near Yekaterinburg, TASS reported.
According to the scenario, Kyrgyzstan’s peacekeeping troops fell into an ambush set up by the "militants." Meanwhile, the crews of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) detected the movement of the reserve troops of the illegal armed groups. Under the commander’s decision, the peacekeeping forces of Russia, Armenia and Belarus set off in BTR-82A armored personnel carriers to block the "enemy."
Following the refusal to lay down arms, the CSTO peacemakers opened fire on the positions and firing points of the "enemy," causing its retreat. Mi-24 strike helicopters offered aerial support to the ground forces.
The drones’ operators also pinpointed the location of "terrorists’" convoys and transmitted data to the aircraft control post. The crews of the Su-24Ms, which had taken off from an airfield in the Chelyabinsk Region, carried out "strikes" on the detected targets. The command post confirmed the precise attacks on the "militants" in real-time mode.
The military contingents from six CSTO member states - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan - as well as an operation group of the CSTO Joint Headquarters, police forces and departments of the emergencies ministries of these countries are taking part in the "Enduring Brotherhood-2018," which started on October 30 and will run until November 2 in the Sverdlovsk Region. Russia is represented by servicemen from the Central Military District. About 1,300 people in total are taking part in the maneuvers, along with 300 vehicles, 20 aircraft, including unmanned aerial vehicles.
