MOSCOW, August 16. /TASS/. The Russian Black Sea Fleet’s frigate Admiral Grigorovich has hit a naval target with a Kalibr cruise missile in the Black Sea for the first time, the Fleet’s press office reported on Thursday.
"In compliance with the combat training plan, the Black Sea Fleet frigate Admiral Grigorovich has held a live-fire exercise to hit a surface target at a naval practice range in the Black Sea with the Kalibr missile system," the press office said.
This was the first firing exercise held from aboard a surface ship of the Black Sea Fleet using the Kalibr precision system as part of the combat training plan, the Fleet said.
"The missile successfully hit the target simulating a notional enemy’s warship staying at a distance of about 40 nautical miles [about 80 kilometers]," the press office said.
Unmanned aerial vehicles recorded that the missile had accurately hit the target.
The naval training range where the missile firing exercise was held was closed for shipping for security purposes. A total of 11 warships and support vessels, and also aircraft of the Black Sea Fleet’s naval aviation were accomplishing the task of keeping the naval range closed for shipping.
