Russia to promote remote-controlled torpedoes on international markets
They are designated to hit submarines, surface ships and stationary targets
MOSCOW, July 12. /TASS/. Russia is offering remote-controlled homing and small-size torpedoes to foreign customers in order to equip their warships and modernize their armament, Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport (part of hi-tech corporation Rostec) announced on Thursday.
"In the segment of torpedo armament, we offer a universal electric tele-controlled homing torpedo TE-2. It is designated to hit submarines, surface ships and stationary targets. Besides, some new weapon systems - the 533mm and small-size 324mm torpedoes - are promising for their promotion on the external market," the company’s press office said.
The torpedoes are being developed by the Gidropribor Sea Underwater Weapon Company. It also offers MDM-1 and MDM-2 seabed mines to foreign customers.
"The MDM-3 mine is capable of striking small displacement ships and amphibious assault landing vessels when it is used in defensive minefields. The mines are equipped with the fuses which, combined with the logic of the operation of anti-sweep devices and the use of clock-delay mechanisms and ship counters, ensure effective protection from sweeping by modern influence sweeps and from natural interferences," the company’s press office said.
Rosoboronexport also offers GAK Mayak-2014 hydro acoustic stations, MG-74ME self-propelled hydro acoustic countermeasure devices, small-size self-propelled torpedo defense equipment, and also the SHAT-U broad-band sweep and the GKT-3M deep-water contact sweep that has no rivals in the world.
As Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev said, foreign navies operate 225 warships built in Russia. Of this number, more than 100 surface ships and submarines carry seaborne underwater weapons.
