Russia’s Pacific Fleet ships pay business visit to Japanese port

The Pacific Fleet’s ships will wrap up their visit to Japan on July 10

VLADIVOSTOK, July 5. /TASS/. A Pacific Fleet task force on Thursday arrived in Japan where the Russian sailors will have a cultural program and sports competitions between the two countries’ servicemen, Pacific Fleet Spokesman Captain 2nd Rank Nikolai Voskresensky said.

"Today the task force of the Pacific Fleet’s warships consisting of large anti-submarine vessels Admiral Tributs, Admiral Vinogradov and a mid-size sea tanker Pechenga arrived on a business visit to the Maizuru naval base of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force," Voskresensky said.

After the ships moored at the port, a ceremony to meet with the task force was held and later its Commander Captain 1st Rank Oleg Korolev attended a news conference for Japanese mass media.

In the afternoon, the Russian command is scheduled to meet with the commandant of the naval base, the commander of the battalion of destroyers, and the commander of the Asagiri-class destroyer and the Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer, the chief of a regional security unit at the sea and the Maizuru mayor.

The Pacific Fleet’s ships will wrap up their visit to Japan on July 10.
