Nicaragua permits military from Russia, US, other states to hold drills on its territory
In line with the document, Russian military will be able to arrive to Nicaragua to take part in joint drills with the country’s Air Force
MOSCOW, June 30. /TASS/. The parliament of Nicaragua has allowed military forces from Russia, United States, Venezuela, Cuba and other countries to train on the country’s territory, the Canal 4 TV reported on Friday.
Lawmakers gave their approval to a decree by president Daniel Ortega, which allows servicemen, aircraft and vessels from Russia, the United States, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Dominican Republic and Taiwan "to stay on the territory of Nicaragua for humanitarian purposes, with the goal to train, study and exchange experience" in the second half of 2018.
In line with the document, Russian military will be able to arrive to Nicaragua to take part in joint drills with the country’s Air Force to "render disaster assistance" and "fight against drug trafficking and transnational organized crime."
Servicemen of the two states will also exchange experience on "operations against illegal activities in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean."
The emergency parliamentary session was attended by 89 out of 92 lawmakers.
