Russia to build another missile attack warning radar station
The creation of the network of new high-technology radar stations makes it possible in the shortest time to build up the capability of the missile attack warning system
MOSCOW, August 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russia will launch the construction of another radar station of the missile attack warning system. The ceremony of memorable capsule laying and the foundation of the new-generation radar station Voronezh-M will be held in the city of Orsk, Orenburg Region, on Tuesday, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Defense Forces Alexei Zolotukhin told Itar-Tass.
A meeting on the radar construction, as well as on local infrastructure development for the accommodation of military servicemen and their families will also be held on Tuesday.
The high factory readiness Voronezh class radar stations are built for improving the capability of the missile warning system of Aerospace Defense Forces.
The high factory readiness technology provides for the design, fabrication and testing of separate modules of the station at plants. The station’s assembly from modules and its full testing are made on the deployment site. The new radar station’s deployment requires minimal infrastructure, the time of deployment is 1 to 1.5 years, while for its “predecessors” this time was 5 to 9 years.
Zolotukhin said that four new generation radar stations are currently deployed in Russia. The Voronezh-DM radar in the Krasnodar Territory and the Voronezh-M radar in the Leningrad Region are on combat duty. The Voronezh-DM stations in the Kaliningrad and Irkutsk Regions operate in the test combat duty mode.
“In addition to the Orenburg Region in 2013, the work on the creation of new-generation radar stations is underway in the Krasnoyarsk and Altai Territories. The construction of new high factory-readiness radar stations is planned also in a number of other regions of Russia within the framework of the development of the missile attack warning system,” Zolotukhin said.
The creation of the network of new high-technology radar stations makes it possible in the shortest time to build up the capability of the missile attack warning system and ensure continuous radar control of all missile-threat directions from Russia’s territory.
