One injured in Izhevsk gas cylinder explosion

A total of 4,700 people were evacuated from the shopping centre after the explosion

IZHEVSK, January 6 (Itar-Tass) — One person was injured in a cafe in Izhevsk in an explosion caused by depressurisation of a gas cylinder. Acting spokesperson for the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry’s (EMERCOM) main department for Udmurtia Veronika Mitrofanova told Itar-Tass that a gas cylinder depressurisation occurred in the Fatima cafe, located in the Stolitsa shopping centre.

“The explosion took place at 19:03 MSK, Saturday. According to preliminary reports, one woman – an employee of the cafe was injured. She got minor injuries and was hospitalised,” said Mitrofanova.

A total of 4,700 people were evacuated from the shopping centre after the explosion. All the forces and means of fire fighting services, police, and ambulance were sent to the scene.
