MOSCOW, October 31 (Itar-Tass) —— Turkey has not taken any practical actions to return the Russian cargo from the Moscow-Damascus airplane, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told reporters on Wednesday.

“The contacts continue. As far as I am concerned, no practical actions have been taken yet,” Gatilov underlined.

The Syrian Airlines airplane, which was en route from Moscow to Damascus, was detained by the Turkish authorities on October 10. After the entry in the air space of Turkey the airplane was forced to land in the Turkish capital under the convoy of the fighters. The Turkish authorities named the suspicions for illegal weapon transportation as the reason for landing. The airplane was carrying 37 people, including 17 Russian citizens with children. The airplane was detained in Turkey for about nine hours and then flied to Damascus. However, Turkey confiscated over ten sealed containers onboard. According to the Russian reports this was an absolutely legal cargo – the electric equipment for the radar station.

Commenting on the current situation spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich noted that Turkey does not put into question the lawfulness of the delivery, but has some claims to the procedure of notification about the transportation.

“The statements voiced initially about the ammunition onboard were actually dismissed by the Turkish partners,” he noted.

Russia insists on the need for a very detailed investigation in the incident and receiving the explanations from the Turkish authorities, because, according to several citizens onboard, they were treated brutally by the Turkish law enforcement agencies and even the measures of physical violence were used against the crewmen.
