183 Russian Paralympic athletes to take part in London Games

All in all there are 313 people in the Russian official delegation

LONDON, August 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s delegation to London 2012 Paralympics will be the biggest one as compared with the previous Paralympic Games, the chief of the Russian national team, Pavel Rozhkov, told Tass on Thursday.

He said 183 Paralympic athletes will take part in the London Paralympic Games. All in all there are 313 people in the Russian official delegation, including coaches, medics, masseurs and operating personnel.

The Russian national team arrived in London on Wednesday and began training on Thursday. According to the organizers of the London Paralympic Games, 4,280 athletes from 166 countries of the world will take part, and of them 1,800 are wheelchair athletes.

This time Russian athletes will take part in a new for them event – cycling. All in all, they will compete in 12 events of 21. Apart from cycling this will be swimming, track and field, power lifting, table tennis, wheelchair fencing, shooting sports, archery, football (played by athletes with cerebral palsy with seven players on each side), rowing, judo and volleyball.

Russia will hoist the national flag in the Paralympic Village on August 28.
