Infection outbreak in Khabarovsk Krai children camp

Hospitals in the Pereyaslavka settlement and Khabarovsk are ready to receive them, if necessary

KHABAROVSK, July 23 (Itar-Tass) — There has been a mass infection outbreak in a children’s recreation camp in the Khabarovsk Territory.

The regional Health Minister Alexander Vitko said at a press conference on Monday that “52 children and three youth leaders (of the Sozvezdiye camp) needed medical aid. Four children were taken to an infection unit of the Lazo Central District Hospital with a diagnosis intestinal infection of unknown aetiology.” Two of the patients have been discharged from hospital in satisfactory condition.

Medical teams and specialists of the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service (Rospotrebnadzor) and other services have been urgently sent to the camp where 384 children aged from 12 to 17 years are holidaying. According to the minister, all the holidaying children and camp staff have been examined. About 50 people “are isolated - they are staying in a separate building under strict surveillance. Hospitals in the Pereyaslavka settlement and Khabarovsk are ready to receive them, if necessary.”

Head of the Khabarovsk Territory department of Rospotrebnadzor Vladimir Ott said that “the food storage temperature was not observed in the recreation camp’s kitchen.” The laboratory tests results that will clarify the reasons for the outbreak will be announced on Thursday. A set of preventive measures has been taken.

The leaders of the territorial ministries of health, education, Rospotrebnadzor services believe that “there are no reasons for closing the camp” and that “the rest of the children will continue.”
