Almost 40,000 left without electricity in southern Russian regions

MOSCOW, June 16 (Itar-Tass) —— Almost 40,000 people are left without electricity in the Krasnodar Territory and the Rostov Region.

The power supply is expected to be resumed on Saturday evening, a source at the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry's Southern Regional Centre told Itar-Tass by telephone.

The heavy rainstorm cut off electricity to the Belaya Glina district in the Krasnodar Territory and the Peschanokopskoye district in the Rostov Region on Saturday. A total of about 40,000 people were left with power supply.

The supply was resumed to almost 4,000 people in the Krasnodar Territory and a fifth of the population in the Rostov Region, the source said.

The repair work is continuing. It is expected to be completed by 20:00-21:00 Moscow time in the Krasnodar Territory and 20:00 in the Rostov Region.

Meanwhile, a storm warning is issued for Adygeya. Thunderstorms, heavy rains with hail and winds of 20 m/sec will come to the republic in the next few hours and may cause emergencies, including falls of trees on electro-transmission lines, the regional centre warned.
