Izhmash to pay 40,000 ruble fine for disappearance of 80 Kalashnikovs

IZHEVSK, May 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The Izhevsk Machine Building Plant will pay a fine for losing 80 Kalashnikov submachine guns, the Udmurtia prosecutor’s office told Itar-Tass on Friday.

The Udmurtia Arbitration Court ordered to levy a fine of 40,000 rubles, it said.

The investigation of the disappearance of 80 Kalashnikov submachine guns from the Izhevsk Machine Building Plant in January 2012 revealed that the plant fragrantly breached the rules of the disposal of firearms and close combat hardware.

The submachine guns were taken from the plant premises on January 12. They were bound for disposal but accidentally came into the heads of a local resident. A plant driver believed he was carrying empty crates and sold them as firewood for 500 rubles. The buyer found submachine guns inside. A further inspection of the plant showed that two more submachine guns were missing. Two criminal cases were opened.
