Rescuers are ascertaining if there are people under the rubble

MOSCOW, April 17 (Itar-Tass) — One person was killed and 11 injured as a building that is under construction in southern Moscow collapsed, the city police told Itar-Tass.

“A total of 12 people were injured, one of them died. Another 10 were hospitalised, one victim refused from hospitalisation. He was given first aid at the site,” the source said.

According to him, the injured workers are presumably citizens of CIS countries, “their identities are currently being established.”

Rescuers are ascertaining if there are people under the rubble. “Representatives of the building firm have not yet arrived at the site,” law enforcers said.

“It is an industrial zone where several facilities are under construction,” the source pointed out.

The press service of the Moscow department of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) specified that it was to be a production building.

“The debris clearing operation continues. Two teams with sniffer dogs are examining the wreckage,” an EMERCOM representative said. A total of 260 people are engaged in the debris clearing efforts, 146 of them are specialists of the Emergency Situations Ministry. They use nearly 40 heavy machinery units.

According to earlier police reports, the area of the ·· collapse was 2.5 thousand square metres. The monolithic building of 5-6 storeys in Proyektriruyemy Lane collapsed completely. The thickness of the debris is 10 metres.

An investigative team led by the head of the Russian Investigative Committee’s (SK) main department for Moscow, Vadim Yakovenko, went to the accident site. The issue of opening of a criminal case is being considered.
