Ex-presidential candidate sets up new party in South Ossetia
The new party will protect the interests of those who cast their ballots for Sanakoyev and his election program on April 8
TSKHINVAL, April 11 (Itar-Tass) — A constituent congress of the New Ossetia political party will be held in South Ossetia in May 2012, ex-presidential candidate David Sanakoyev told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"We submitted all necessary documents to the Justice Ministry on our intention to register a republican political party called ‘New Ossetia’. We are going to convene a constituent congress in a month’s time in compliance with the law,” Sanakoyev said.
The new party will protect the interests of those who cast their ballots for Sanakoyev and his election program on April 8.
”It doesn’t mean the party’s going to be in opposition. It would be good if the actions of the authorities coincided with the main points of my program which has the support of 42 % of voters. If not, we are going to seek that,” Sanakoyev emphasized.
Sanakoyev wants to forbid bureaucrats to be engaged in business activities. He also demands that the heads of ministries and departments be made accountable to parliament. Other crucial points of Sanakoyev’s election program include improvement of the local government system, transition to election of district administration chiefs, economic recovery through legal and credit support of small businesses, provision of employment for people, especially in rural areas, and development of innovative production.
David Sanakoyev gained 42.65 % of votes in the second round of presidential elections on April 8, losing to Leonid Tibilov (54.12 %).
The new president of South Ossetia will be sworn in on April 19.
