A powerful snow cyclone left Sakhalin overnight, motor traffic on the island was fully restored on Wednesday morning

VLADIVOSTOK, February 22 (Itar-Tass) — A powerful snow cyclone left Sakhalin overnight, motor traffic on the island was fully restored on Wednesday morning.

According to the Sakhalin region’s automobile roads department, throughout the night road scrapers and bulldozers were clearing of snow the Lovetsky pass on which a 20-kilometres highway spiral runs from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to the town of Nevelsk. The pass now is open for all transport vehicles.

The operation of the Vanino – Kholmsk ferry service, linking the mainland with the island, has also been restored. Four specialised ferry boats, each of which is designed to carry 26 rail cars and 100 passengers, can now freely pass through the Tatar Strait. The storm in the strait has died down, the waves subsided, so the ferry boat traffic is taking the regular rhythm.

The press service of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport reported that all the flights scheduled for February 21 that were delayed because of bad weather conditions in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, have been performed. On Wednesday, the planes fly without delay, on the main schedule.
