MOSCOW, November 30 (Itar-Tass) ——The establishment of the Eurasian Union must become the task of the current generation of Russians, Andrei Isayev, First Deputy Secretary of the Presidium of the United Russia Party’s General Council, stated in an online interview on the party’s official website.

“There is a rational kernel in nostalgia for the USSR, apart from emotions,” he said, recalling that “the USSR was the world’s second largest power determining world politics and its citizens were respected and taken into consideration the world over.”

Regrettably, the politician said, “Russia landed in a different situation in the 90s, we were no longer considered important and we became dependent on international financial institutions. Naturally, it is in Russia’s interests to be independent in the utmost and to pursue its sovereign policy.”

“It is in Russia’s interest to be taken into consideration. It will be much easier to achieve this if a new integration association of peoples historically close to one another emerges on the basis of the former Soviet Union,” holds the representative of the ruling party’s leadership.

“In the framework of this association it will be possible to supply all kinds of goods with a result that it will be impossible to apply sanctions to us. We will considerably broaden the market for domestic goods, and hence we’ll get an opportunity to create more jobs. If we pursue the common line on the international arena, this association will carry the weight no less than that of the European Union, the United States or China,” the MP said.

Isayev also pointed out that “whatever the authority, Russia has always been trying to create the space that would be called the Russian empire.” It is precisely such space, he said, that “made for Russia’s self-sufficiency.”

“It is impossible to stand still, there can be either expansion and increase or narrowing and shrinking. I do believe that the task of creating a contemporary Eurasian Union is a task for our generation to fulfill,” Isayev said.
