BEIJING, October 1 (Itar-Tass) — The celebration of the 62nd anniversary since the formation of the People’s Republic of China started with the state flag hoisting and the wreath-laying ceremony to people’s heroes, fallen for the homeland’s independence in the country’s main square of Tiananmen in the Chinese capital.

The ceremony in the square was attended by President Hu Jintao, premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese leaders.

Squares and avenues of the Chinese capital were decked with bright flower compositions, and red streamers with patriotic calls and Chinese flags were hung everywhere on the occasion of the national holiday. Numerous concerts will be staged during festive days in Beijing. The main flower composition – a flowerbed 50 metres in diameter – was laid out in the Tiananmen Square.

“Chinese people honour the memory of heroes who gave their lives for freedom and prosperity of China on this festive day; their memory will be eternal,” reports the Xinhua news agency.

Reinforced security measures are introduced on the main national holiday in the Chinese capital. Posts of special anti-terrorist mobile groups of Chinese police in an eye-catching black uniforms were put up everywhere in Beijing streets.

The authorities also announced “a golden week” of off-days to last till October 7. Many Chinese citizens seek these days to get to their native places, which causes congestion of land and air transport. Many make trips around the country or go abroad.
