Pobeda bloc expects global community to respond to struggle against opposition in Moldova

The opposition suggests that Moldovan President Maia Sandu is behind the law enforcement officers’ actions

CHISINAU, April 23. /TASS/. The Moldovan Pobeda bloc expects the international community to respond to actions by the republic’s authorities against opposition politicians, according to a statement received by TASS after detention in the airport of Chisinau and questioning of participants of the opposition congress returning from Moscow.

"We expect the international community to respond, Moldovan citizens need to be protected from criminals settled down in the presidential administration," the statement reads. The opposition suggests that Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity, which controls the government, are behind the law enforcement officers’ actions.

Moldovan law enforcement officers confiscated money from some participants of the congress on the border, according to the Pobeda bloc. "Many of those returning are senior citizens. They were left without water, they were threatened, the remaining money were taken from them so they had no cash to get back home. An ambulance was called for many of them, not everyone can withstand such a pressure. Our colleagues were questioned for several hours," the statement reads.

Leaders of a number of Moldovan opposition parties announced integration into the Pobeda political bloc on the previous day in Moscow. It will be an opposition to the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity, which controls the country’s parliament and government.
