HOMS /Syria/, April 13. /TASS/. Members of a Russian parliamentary delegation on Thursday delivered presents to schoolchildren in El Waer, the last district of Syria’s Homs to be freed from militants.
The Russian delegation that visited a social care center in El Waer was greeted by local schoolchildren, wearing traditional outfits and dancing the Arada folk dance.
"We gave Syrian schoolchildren presents, collected in the Khanty-Mansiysk Region," Khanty-Mansiysk governor Natalya Komarova, who is a member of the delegation, told reporters.
Russian MP Dmitry Sablin, who is the coordinator of a parliamentary group for ties with Syrian lawmakers, said the delegation was glad of having a chance to help those in need.
"I was in Syria when our Reconciliation center servicemen helped to liberate Al Waer," he said. "This was a difficult and risky job, but thanks to their efforts and efforts of our Syrian friends, the district is returning to normal life."
Sablin leads the delegation of State Duma, the lower chamber of the Russian parliament, which arrived on a visit to Syria on Wednesday.
