US, France deny role in missile strike on Syrian air base

Earlier on Monday, a missile strike was launched on the T-4 airfield in the east of Syria’s Homs province, according to the Syrian media

WASHINGTON, April 9. /TASS/. The Pentagon is not confirming that it was behind a missile strike on an air base in Syria’s Homs province on Monday morning.

"At this time, the Department of Defense is not conducting air strikes in Syria," the Pentagon said in a statement. "However, we continue to closely watch the situation and support the ongoing diplomatic efforts to hold those who use chemical weapons, in Syria and otherwise, accountable."

The French military also denied its role in the missile strike on Syria’s T-4 military airfield. French army spokesman Patrick Steiger told AFP: "This is not us."

Israel’s Defense Forces refused to comment on the missile strike.

Earlier on Monday, a missile strike was launched on the T-4 airfield in the east of Syria’s Homs province, the government’s Suriya TV channel reported citing a military source. Syria’s air defense systems shot down eight missiles. According to Al-Mayadeen television, the missiles had entered Syrian airspace from Lebanon.

Al Arabiya TV claimed that the strike was carried out by Israel’s Air Force. At least 14 servicemen, including several Iranian advisers, were killed, according to the report.
