Geneva is ’the place for solution’, says Syrian opposition

Spokesman for the united Syrian opposition Yahya Al-Aridi reiterated that Russia had backed UN Security Council’s Resolution 2254 on Syria

GENEVA, December 12./TASS/. The Syrian opposition believes the political settlement of the Syrian conflict must be achieved at Geneva talks, Spokesman for the united Syrian opposition delegation at the talks in Geneva, Yahya Al-Aridi, said on Tuesday.

"It is agreed that Geneva is the place for discussing any political matter and any other contribution should be pouring to Geneva talks," Yahya Al-Aridi said. "The place for solution, we believe, is Geneva," he stressed.

He reiterated that Russia had backed UN Security Council’s Resolution 2254 on Syria, which determines the main moves towards the political settlement.

"National Syrian dialogue - it is part of 2254 but we shouldn't be selective about 2254. It is consequential thing, there are four baskets to be discussed and we are discussing them here. If any success is granted to the Geneva process, Mr. Putin who is talking about political solution in Syria now would be happy to see Geneva succeed," the spokesman said.
