GENEVA, December 11./TASS/. The Syrian opposition welcomes all moves towards Syria’s return to peaceful life, spokesman for the united Syrian opposition delegation at the talks in Geneva, Yahya Al-Aridi, said when asked to comment on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria.

"We want Syria to be safe, for her people to come back home. Any step, any procedure that would contribute to the fact that the Syria is peaceful, that people inside and outside from Syria can come back and feel peace and rebuild their country, especially for the militias that are creating chaos and killing people there to be removed, any step in this direction is welcome," he said.

On December 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Islamic State (IS, terror group, outlawed in Russia) had been fully defeated on both banks of the Euphrates in Syria.

"Naturally, there can still be some isolated pockets of resistance. However, by and large, combat operations at this stage and on this territory are over. I repeat that they ended with the victory and terrorists’ complete defeat," the president stressed.

On Monday, the president visited the Russian Hmeymim airbase in Syria, ordering the Russian Defense Ministry to start the withdrawal of Russian troops from that country.
