Bulgarian Orthodox Church presents Russian cathedral in Paris with Virgin Mary's icon

The gala presentation ceremony took place in the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Center on Quai Branly

PARIS, April 6. /TASS/. Representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church on Wednesday presented the Holy Trinity Russian cathedral in Paris with the icon of Annunciation of the Virgin Mary.

The gala presentation ceremony took place in the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Center on Quai Branly.

Bishop Nestor of Chersonese received the icon from the the clerics of the Bulgarian parish of St Patriatch Euphemius of Tyrnovo.

"This event gives big joy to us and this church is our common home where we are always glad to see you," he said.

The Bulgarian parish presented the icon on the eve of the feast of Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, which is marked on April 7.

"This is a contemporary image made by Bulgarian icon-painters but it is styled to the 18th century," priest Georgy Sheshko told TASS.

Construction of the Russian Spiritual and Cultural Center and the Holy Trinity Cathedral, which is incorporated into the compound, began in 2014. It was designed by the French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte

The official opening of the Center was held on October 19, 2016, and the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill I consectrated the cathedral on December 4, 2016.
