Israeli intelligence minister says creating Palestinian state currently impossible

TEL AVIV, March 27. /TASS/. Creating a Palestinian state is currently impossible, Israeli Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz said in an interview with TASS.

"It is not possible to create a Palestinian state at the moment, so only a new security and economic policy would allow to hold talks with Palestinians with the support of the Arab countries," he said.

Katz added that for Israel, "it is important to come to an understanding on this matter with the new White House administration." "In the next few years, the situation in the region needs to be changed in three aspects, including regional security, regional economy and steps to build peace. The third should be based on the first two," the Israeli minister noted.

He went on to say that he had raised an idea of creating an artificial island off the Gaza coast, where a port and other civilian infrastructure facilities could be built. "I have been calling for implementing this idea for a long time," he added. "It would provide an economic and humanitarian link with the world to the Palestinians living in the Gaza Sector without damaging Israel’s security."

According to Katz, "this would help separate Israel from the sector." "For we are still responsible for it (the Gaza Sector) although we left it more than ten years ago," the Israeli intelligence minister said.
