Human rights activists say two Russians detained as rally dispersed in Minsk

The unauthorized rally against social and economic policies of the Belarusian authorities in Minsk on Saturday was dispersed by police

MINSK, March 26. /TASS/. Two Russian citizens were detained when Belarusian authorities dispersed the March of Angry Belarusians in Minsk, the Viasna human rights center said on its website.

Out of 254 people on the list of those detained, 134 have been already released, the human rights activists said. Former lawmaker of the 13th Belarusian Supreme Council, the parliament, Valery Schukin was also detained and later hospitalised with a hypertensic crisis.

The unauthorized rally against social and economic policies of the Belarusian authorities in Minsk on Saturday was dispersed by police. The protesters planned to march from the National Academy of Sciences through the city’s center.

The earlier scheduled demonstration on occasion of the 99th anniversary of establishment of the Belarusian People’s Republic was canceled. The March of Angry Belarusians was scheduled to become part of protests that have hit the country since February.
