Expert notes it is in Washington's interest to improve relations with Moscow

Washington will have to reconsider its policy towards Russia because it will be beneficial forthe States, an expert believes

BOAO, March 23. /TASS/. Absence of positive relations between the United States and Russia resulted in reduction of the US influence at a global scale, Director of the Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies Kent Calder told TASS.

"The fact that the US and Russia have not been able to have positive relations has reduced US influence on the global basis," Calder said on the sidelines of the economic forum in Boao.

"What is a good thing, a positive thing, the people like Secretary [of State Rex] Tillerson are familiar with Russian leaders," the expert said.

Distrust of Russia in the US society should go down soon, Calder said. "The kind of paranoia [of the US towards Russia] that comes from lack of familiarity and misperception would be less," the expert said.

The United States will have to reconsider its policy towards Russia because it is in the US interests, the expert said.

"Improvement in relationship with Russia is certainly in US interest in terms of the global political and economic seeing," Calder added.
