7-km security zone set up around ammunition depot on fire in Ukraine

A preliminary investigation showed that the explosion had been the result of a sabotage act

KIEV, March 23. /TASS/. A 7-kilometer security zone has been established around an ammunition depot on fire in northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkov region, the country’s Chief Military Prosecutor Anatoly Matios said on Thursday.

"A seven-kilometer zone has been set up around the scattered munitions at the explosion scene," Matios wrote on his Facebook page.

A preliminary investigation carried out by a military prosecutor of the Kharkov garrison, who is currently at the accident scene, showed that the explosion had been the result of a sabotage act.

The fire started at around 3.00 a.m. local time (0100GMT) at several storage facilities for missiles and artillery weapons. Local citizens have been evacuated from the scene. The regional authorities and law enforcers are working in the area.

A group of officers from the Defense Ministry led by Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Igor Pavlovsky are heading to the site.
