Bulgarian president calls for unified decision on anti-Russian sanctions

Sanctions are rather damaging and divisive for Europe at the moment when it should be more consolidated, said Rumen Rade

SOFIA, March 18. /TASS/. President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev admitted on Friday that the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions were damaging but a decision on revoking them was to be taken in a consolidated manner not only in the EU but also at the national level in Bulgaria.

"Sanctions are rather damaging and divisive for Europe at the moment when it should be more consolidated but a decision on lifting them should be taken at a political level," Radev said. "Europe must have a unified external policy."

"The Bulgarian parliament, which is absent right now, the government and the president should take a consolidated decision at the national level," he told Bulgarian national television.

He voiced the hope Russian President Vladimir Putin and he would act as co-patrons of the celebrations devoted to the 140th anniversary since the liberation of Bulgaria in the Russian-Turkish War of 1877 and 1878.
