Syrian armed opposition will not attend Astana talks — Foreign Ministry

On March 14-15, the Kazakh capital hosted the third international meeting on Syria at a high level in the framework of the Astana process

ASTANA, March 16. /TASS/. Syrian armed opposition’s delegation has not come to Astana to take part in the talks on settling the crisis, Kazakh Foreign Ministry Spokesman Anuar Zhainakov told TASS on Thursday.

"Late yesterday, we received information that the delegation of Syria’s opposition won't come to Astana. Therefore, no consultations are expected to be held," Zhainakov said.

The delegations of the Syrian ceasefire guarantor states (Russia, Turkey and Iran) have already left Astana, he added.

On March 14-15, the Kazakh capital hosted the third international meeting on Syria at a high level in the framework of the Astana process. The talks were attended by delegations of the ceasefire guarantor states and also representatives of the United Nations, Jordan, the United States and the Syrian government.
